Washington, DC – Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) is calling on the IRS to expedite stimulus checks to people who still have not received their Economic Impact Payments (stimulus checks) and to be more responsive in answering inquiries about the status of pending checks. In a letter to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner Charles Rettig, Dr. Ruiz said his office had submitted 80 inquiries and received fewer than 20 responses from the IRS.
Palm Desert, CA – Representatives Ruiz (CA-36), Barragán (CA-44), Correa (CA-46), Lieu (CA-33), and Porter (CA-45) held a call with regional reporters today calling on the Senate to take up the Heroes Act, which the House passed in May. The Heroes Act would protect the paychecks of frontline workers, provide direct payments of up to $6,000 for families who are struggling, extend expanded unemployment benefits that will expire at the end of the month if the Senate fails to act, support small businesses, and invest in the testing needed to reopen our economy safely.
Washington, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2 the Moving Forward Act – an infrastructure package focused on creating millions of American jobs, combatting the climate crisis, and addressing disparities throughout America. Included in H.R. 2 were several of Congressman Raul Ruiz’s legislative priorities, including an investigation into heat related illness in school buses without air conditioning, the Tribal Internet Expansion Act, and a bill to improve the Desert Sage Youth Wellness Center.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) called on Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to work to protect grape growers in the Coachella Valley who are losing business as a result of imports from Mexico. The letter asks the Departments to brief Dr. Ruiz on their efforts to ensure that American growers are competing on a level playing field against unfair foreign competition.

Alongside local health care groups, Dr. Ruiz brought attention to the steep cuts the Trump Administration has proposed to programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid as President Trump is preparing for a fundraising trip to the Palm Springs area this week.
