With negotiations over a $1.75 trillion spending package at a critical point in Washington, U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Palm Desert, is hopeful that the final version of the legislation will be passed in the House by the end of the week.

The package, known as the Build Back Better Act, would mark a major revamping of the country’s social safety net and climate policies, investing hundreds of billions of dollars to expand access to child care and pre-school, extend child tax credits and promote more investment in renewable energy.

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) will receive a nearly $5 million grant from the Department of Education’s Hispanic-Serving Institution’s (HSI) Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Articulation Program, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) announced today.

The grant will increase the number of Hispanic and low-income students who graduate from CSUSB with degrees in STEM fields. Earlier this year, Ruiz wrote to Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona in support of the program.
