I am excited to report that I enthusiastically voted for H.R. 3, the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act, which passed the House today. This historic legislation would lower the cost of your prescription drugs and strengthen and protect Medicare!

H.R. 3 empowers Medicare for the first time ever to negotiate lower drug prices and makes those lowered prices available to American families with private insurance. Furthermore, the savings from the bill will go toward researching new life-saving medicine. And for the first time ever, Medicare would include hearing, dental, and vision coverage.

What the lower drug costs now act means for CA-36

This bill would make a difference in the lives of seniors in our communities who have reported paying up to $6,000 a month for their medications. H.R. 3 would limit out-of-pocket costs for seniors and protect them from paying more than $2,000 a year for their medicine.

I cosponsored and voted for the Lower Drug Costs Now Act because it would generate real results for our community.

As a physician, I put patients first. The Lower Drug Costs Now Act does just that--it puts our friends, families, and neighbors, who have had to sacrifice their health due to outrageous costs of their necessary medications, first. Now that this bill has passed the House, it's time for the Senate to act. I urge a vote in the Senate, and I will continue advocating for the Lower Drug Costs Now Act and for policies that drive down the cost of health care.

Sincerely,

Raul Ruiz, M.D.

Member of Congress
