Wounded Warrior Project Recognizes Dr. Ruiz as “Legislator of the Year”
Palm Desert, CA – The Wounded Warrior Project has presented Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) with the organization’s inaugural Legislator of the Year Award for his leadership in helping pass the Honoring our PACT Act, a historic law to help veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxins receive the health care they need.
“I am so honored to have been selected by Wounded Warrior Project as a Legislator of the Year,” said Dr. Ruiz. “Since I came to Congress, I have worked tirelessly to get our nation’s veterans the recognition, benefits, and care they have earned, deserve, and need. Over the years, the veterans I serve and represent have been my constant inspiration in this work. I will continue working to honor our nation’s veterans not just with words – but with action to improve their lives.”
“It is an honor to recognize the policymakers who we have closely worked with Wounded Warrior Project to bring forward policies that have a tremendous impact on the lives of those we serve. This year we are excited to launch our Legislator of the Year Award to recognize the herculean efforts to pass some of this generation’s most impactful pieces of legislation,” said Jose Ramos, Vice President for Government and Community Relations at Wounded Warrior Project. “We could not think of a more deserving Member than Rep. Raul Ruiz. As I told Rep. Ruiz during the PACT Act signing ceremony, I believe his unwavering effort throughout the years made passage of the PACT Act possible. We also want to recognize him for his leadership on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and his efforts on another one of WWP’s priorities, the Major Richard Star Act. Rep. Ruiz’s steadfast leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives has made a significant impact on the lives of millions of veterans across the country.”
The award also recognizes Dr. Ruiz’s bipartisan work in helping introduce the Major Richard Star Act, which would close a loophole that causes more than 42,000 military retirees to miss out on their full military retirement pay and service-connected disability compensation.
