Dr. Ruiz Joins Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus

April 23, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) announced today that he has joined the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus, a bipartisan, bicameral group focused on reducing the unemployment rate of the nation’s nearly 800,000 veterans looking for work.

“Veterans in the 36th District and all across the United States have served our country honorably and they deserve our steadfast support,” said Dr. Ruiz. “Unfortunately, too many veterans struggle to find a good job once they return home. This caucus is taking meaningful action to find work for our returning service members, and it’s a great example of what can be achieved when Members of Congress put partisanship aside and come together to support our nation’s veterans.”

The Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus has the following goals:

  • Promote veteran hiring across the public and private sector through the “I Hire Veterans” initiative and by increasing the awareness of veteran unemployment and the skills our men and women in uniform bring to civilian life
  • Work with the private sector, government, and service organizations to remove barriers that our nation’s veterans face in their search for employment
  • Hold monthly Member or staff-level events to share information on veterans’ employment initiatives

The Caucus has received the endorsement of more than 20 Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), including the American Legion, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), and the Easter Seals.

Dr. Ruiz is a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
