Dr. Ruiz Applauds New Bipartisan Law Supporting Medical Research for Pediatric Disorders By Eliminating Taxpayer Funding for Political Conventions

April 3, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) applauded the signing into law of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act. Dr. Ruiz joined the President of the United States at the White House for the bill signing ceremony with a bipartisan group of physician lawmakers.

“As a physician and public servant, my priority is the health and well-being of the people I serve,” said Dr. Ruiz. “This bill directs over $125 million over 10 years toward pediatric medical research by eliminating wasteful taxpayer funding for political conventions. This pragmatic solution is a firm step toward advancing much needed scientific research of pediatric diseases and disorders that will help find cures for devastating childhood conditions and help more children live healthy and happy lives.”

The Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act (H.R. 2019) directs over $125 million over ten years to the National Institutes of Health by eliminating taxpayer funding for political conventions. Dr. Ruiz is a cosponsor of The Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act and voted for its passage last year.
