Dr. Ruiz Applauds Passage of Bill to Keep Access to the Internet Tax-Free

July 15, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) applauded the passage of the bipartisan Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act. This legislation would make permanent the ban on state and local taxation of Internet access. It would also prohibit multiple states from taxing the same online sale and prevent states from imposing higher taxes on Internet commerce than in-person sales.

“Today, the Internet connects families and businesses right here in our desert and across the globe,” said Dr. Ruiz. “Countless people rely on Internet access to communicate, search for employment, run a small business, or pursue an education. This bipartisan bill will help ensure people and businesses have unencumbered access to this critical tool tax-free.”

This legislation passed the House today with bipartisan support.
