Dr. Ruiz Presses Social Security Administration on Closure of Blythe Resident Station
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) put pressure on the Social Security Administration to reverse its decision to close the Blythe Resident Social Security Station that offers in-person services to local seniors. In a letter to Acting Social Security Commissioner Dr. Kilolo Kijakazi, Dr. Ruiz called on the Administration to keep the Blythe Resident Social Security Station open, citing the hardship Blythe residents would experience having to travel as far as Yuma, Ariz. to receive in-person Social Security services.
"It is vital that the Social Security Administration continue to provide some level of in-person service to the residents of Blythe, even if it is a mobile office that holds regular office hours to provide a direct line for our constituents," Dr. Ruiz wrote. "As a member of the United States House of Representatives, it is my responsibility to advocate for the needs of my constituents and to address any changes to services that will create an unnecessary hardship in accessing these critical services."
