Thermal residents in mobile home parks will now have access to clean drinking water in their homes. A dedication event was held this morning to commemorate the "Drinking Water Installation Project" which will provide over 60 water filters to be installed in local mobile homes.
"When you think about what is happening in oasis, I know the supervisor, the congressman, the assemblyman, they just met this week to talk about the implementation of funding for the Oasis Mobile Home Park," explained Linda Evans, Mayor of La Quinta.
President Joe Biden reiterated his support for a Democratic effort to include immigration policy in his multi-trillion anti-poverty package, assuring a group of lawmakers on Thursday that he would stand by them in their push to see a pathway to citizenship for millions signed into law.
President Biden will meet with 11 Democratic members of Congress at the White House Thursday to discuss the next steps for providing a pathway to citizenship for undocumented migrants brought to the U.S. as children, a White House official told Axios.
Why it matters: Congressional Democrats plan to try to pass pathways to citizenship for so-called Dreamers, TPS holders and undocumented essential workers in the upcoming reconciliation package. Biden also has consistently called on Congress to pass legislation to protect Dreamers.
More than $1 million in Head Start money has been delivered to the Riverside County Office of Education through the American Rescue Plan, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. , CA-36, announced.
Ruiz was instrumental in helping secure the grant money to help get students back in the classroom and make up for lost learning time. The money will benefit 11 school districts across Riverside County and assist schools in modernizing their classrooms and students in accessing academic resources.
Exhausted by years of sputtering immigration talks with Republicans, Democrats plan to try their luck with the Senate's byzantine rulebook instead.
Top Democrats, with the support of the White House, are planning to tuck a handful of immigration measures into their forthcoming $3.5 trillion spending bill. The tactic — which just months ago seemed like a long shot even to liberals — is now widely seen as President Joe Biden's best shot at confronting one of Washington's policy leviathans and delivering on a decades-long party promise.
For the first time ever, millions of Americans will be receiving a monthly tax credit payment beginning Thursday. This includes California families which could get up to $300 dollars per month, per child.
Congressman Raul Ruiz held a roundtable discussion with local representatives on what is expected moving forward.
The American Rescue Plan provides the largest child tax credit in history and is being looked at as a major step in tackling child poverty.
Until January 6, 2021, the day the U.S. Capitol was attacked, many outside of Washington D.C. had not heard of the U.S. Capitol Police or their role. Since 1828 their principle duty has been to protect members of Congress. While their responsibilities have increased since then, this has been their main mission.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has acknowledged that the owners of the long-troubled Oasis Mobile Home Park on tribal land in Thermal never submitted a proposed business lease to the agency for approval — as is normally required.
But the agency contends that it has not been able to resolve persistent problems at the park because it only has jurisdiction over part of it and that removing people from the park would create a "humanitarian crisis."
For over a decade people living in the Oasis Mobile Home Park in Thermal have been living in conditions that are unsafe, drinking water so contaminated with arsenic the Environmental Protection Agency issued two emergency orders for the owners to comply with federal drinking water standards.
"The responsible agency to ensure that there are no unlawful businesses is the Bureau of Indian Affairs," says Congressman Raul Ruiz, (D) who represents California's 36th District.
