Washington, D.C. – On Monday, February 6, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-25) announced Calipatria City Councilmember Michael J. Luellen II as his guest at this year’s State of the Union Address, per a press release.

Councilmember Luellen is one of the youngest serving elected officials in California at just 18 years old. He is also the youngest person to ever serve on Calipatria City Council.

Local Congressman Raul Ruiz has been appointed to serve as the Ranking Member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries made the announcement on Tuesday.

Ruiz said in a statement he was "honored" to be selected to serve on the subcommittee, especially given his medical background.

“As a physician and public health expert, I will take an equity-based and patient-centered approach to put people above politics and identify common-sense solutions that will protect our nation’s health," Ruiz said.

A dozen years after its inception, dozens and dozens of regional veterans and their families continue to have an opportunity to discover resources and benefits that the country owes to them for their service.

Last weekend the 12th annual Veterans Expo was held at the Albert A. Chatigny Sr. Community Center in Beaumont, offering more space to maneuver for aging vets in wheelchairs and walkers.

WASHINGTON – In a letter sent to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Thursday, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) led over 50 members of Congress in calling for the IRS to reverse current regulations that prevent some same-sex couples from receiving survivor benefits. 

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra visited the Coachella Valley on Friday to speak with residents about vaccinations, mental health and legislation to lower health care costs.

Becerra was accompanied by U.S. Rep. Raul Ruizat the Desert Hot Springs Senior Center and DAP Health in Palm Springs.
