Palm Desert, CA – Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36), an emergency medicine physician and member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement after the health insurer Anthem announced they would leave 13 of the 19 regions in California, including Riverside County where his Congressional district is located:
"I am deeply disappointed to learn that Anthem will be pulling out of the individual health care market in Riverside County, leaving patients with fewer options.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) called on Speaker Ryan to not adjourn for the August District Work Period until Congress addresses the threat of not funding Cost Sharing Reductions that help patients afford out-of-pocket costs. This instability in the Marketplace is driving up the cost of health care for the American people and must be addressed immediately before insurers set their 2018 rates in September. Washington, D.C. – Today Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) announced the introduction of H.R.3258, the Marketplace Certainty Act. This bill will help millions of Americans afford health care by permanently funding Cost Sharing Reduction (CSR) subsidies and expanding access to more hardworking families. Currently, seven million Americans rely on these critical subsidies to afford out-of-pocket costs, like deductibles and co-payments.

This bill requires cleaning products sold in the United States to have ingredients listed on both the label and the manufacturer website so families can keep their children safer by choosing cleaning products that fit their needs, and save lives in emergency situations.

The Task Force, also co-chaired by Republican Representative Markwayne Mullin (OK-2), was created under the House Energy and Commerce Committee and includes 14 members, 7 Democrats and 7 Republicans.
