As a physician, I have seen firsthand the impacts of skyrocketing prescription drug prices on my patients--people who couldn't afford to get their prescriptions filled or who were forced to ration their medications. That is why I am fighting to lower out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for you.

Here is an update on what I'm doing to bring down the cost of prescription drugs:

Lower Drug Costs Now Act

On October 17, I advocated for lowering out-of-pocket costs for our seniors at an Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing. Click on the image above to watch my remarks.

I am fighting for H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act. I cosponsored this critical legislation and voted for it in committee--now it's headed to the House floor for a vote. Here is more about the Lower Drug Costs Now Act:

  • Requires Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices directly with drug companies, including for insulin.
  • Makes lowered prices negotiated by Medicare available to all Americans, including those with private insurance.
  • Creates a new limit on out-of-pocketcosts on prescription drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries
  • Stops drug companies from unreasonably increasing prices for Americans while continuing to charge other countries less for the exact same product.

For far too long, Americans in our communities and across the country have had to sacrifice their health and well-being because their needed medications are unaffordable. That's why I am laser-focused on making sure we lower out-of-pocket costs for seniors and middle-class families.

As your representative and advocate, one of my top priorities is to lower prescription drug prices for you so that you can stay healthy and get the care you need. If you have struggled to afford your medications, I want to hear your story. Call my office at (202) 225-5330 or send me an email at https://ruiz.house.gov/contact/email .
