Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz Votes No on the Republican Budget Scheme

February 26, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (CA-25) released the following statement regarding his vote against the House Republicans’ inhumane budget scheme.

House Republicans’ budget calls for $880 billion in cuts from the Energy and Commerce Committee which will result in cuts to Medicaid, threatening more than 10 million Californians' well-being and the health-care providers that serve them.

Nearly 80 million Americans receive health care through Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, which provide critical care throughout all stages of life. Medicaid covers everything from childbirth to nursing home care and everything in between.

This Budget puts 420,206 people, or 42% of my district at risk of losing their health care. This is the third largest in the state.

This includes 177,096 children under the age of 19 and 41,000 seniors over 65 in CA-25.

“Last night, I voted no on the House Republicans cruel budget scheme. The House Republican Budget is nothing short of despicable. By voting for this framework, House Republicans have signaled they are okay with slashing Medicaid by potentially $880 billion and it harms millions of hardworking families who rely on this vital program for their health care. This reckless proposal puts the health and well-being of Americans at risk, all to fund billions are of dollars in tax breaks for Elon Musk and his billionaire friends. I will continue to fight against these devastating cuts and stand up for my constituents.”
