February 6, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-25) announced Calipatria City Councilmember Michael J. Luellen II as his guest at this year’s State of the Union Address. Councilmember Luellen is one of the youngest serving elected officials in California at just 18 years old. He is also the youngest person to ever serve on Calipatria City Council.

“I am honored to host Calipatria City Councilmember Michael J. Luellen II as my guest at this year’s State of the Union Address,” said Dr. Ruiz. “At 18 years old, Michael has overcome so much in his life as an orphan to become a resilient public servant. His unfolding story is an example of choosing to apply the energy of personal adversity toward good for others. I hope Michael’s story will inspire and empower everyone to achieve their dreams and make the change they wish to see in the world.”

“I am honored to be Congressman Ruiz’s guest at this year’s State of the Union Address, a night to discuss the present and future of our nation,” said Councilmember Luellen. “As the youngest City Councilmember of Calipatria, to me, being part of this night shows that the next generation of leaders is here and ready to work for our future. I thank Dr. Ruiz for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with him for the future of Calipatria and all of California's 25th Congressional District.”
