Dr. Ruiz Applauds Biden Administration’s Bold Action to Boost Mining of Critical Minerals, EV Production 

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) released the following statement in response to President Biden's enactment of the Defense Production Act, which will boost mining of critical minerals, like lithium found under the Salton Sea:

"After multiple meetings and conversations with the White House and the Administration about the Salton Sea, its lithium, and our nation's need to manufacture batteries, I'm glad to see President Biden take much-needed action to lower costs for families, increase America's energy independence, and transition our country to a clean energy future," said Dr. Ruiz. "By invoking the Defense Production Act, the President is unlocking key federal resources to help our local economy responsibly extract lithium under the Salton Sea. This is a win for our economy and local families and takes a giant step toward reducing American dependence on foreign oil. I look forward to working with partners at the local and state level to bring these federal dollars home to our region."
