Dr. Ruiz Blasts GOP Health Plan After Nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office Confirms More Than 14 Million Could Be Uninsured
Washington, D.C. - Today Rep. Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement after the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) announced its score of the Republican health care bill.
"The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released their deeply concerning score of the Republican health care bill today, which found that 14 million fewer people will have insurance as soon as next year and 24 million could be uninsured by 2026. I am deeply outraged that their bill could cause the uninsured rate to skyrocket and make seniors and hard working families pay more for less coverage, while giving tax breaks to corporations and millionaires. This is a giant step in the wrong direction that will harm my patients and millions of Americans. I have seen patients suffer when they cannot afford the care and medicine they need, and the American people deserve better. Instead of rushing this extreme and ideologically partisan bill, we need to work together to truly reduce health care and pharmaceutical drug costs for everyone, improve coverage, and address the provider shortage crisis in our nation."
