Dr. Ruiz Calls for DOJ Criminal Investigation into VA Allegations

Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) issued the following statement calling for the Department of Justice to investigate misconduct at the VA:

“I am calling on the Attorney General to open a criminal investigation immediately to seek out and prosecute those responsible for misconduct at the VA. With the release of the interim Inspector General’s report, it is clear there is a systemic failure of responsibilities, widespread misconduct, and cover-ups that led to the deficiencies in scheduling resulting in lengthy wait times and veterans dying waiting for care.

“This behavior must end and a criminal investigation is needed to remove individuals who participated in this wrongdoing and clean up the VA to put an end to this severe misconduct. The veterans in my district and across our nation deserve better. Their safety and care must come first and those responsible must be held accountable.”
