May 21, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) along with the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP) applauded a $784,769 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The investment will go toward a business accelerator in the Coachella Valley that will focus on helping new, tech-based entrepreneurial firms grow and create jobs.

"This substantial investment in a Coachella Valley business accelerator will go a long way toward helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses and create jobs here at home," said Dr. Ruiz. "I am proud to have worked with the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, the City of Palm Springs, and the Measure J Commission to advocate for this critical grant. I will continue to work as a team with our business community to help create job opportunities here in the Coachella Valley."

"Innovation hubs are the economic development model of the future," says Tom Flavin, president and CEO of CVEP. "The U.S. EDA grant allows us to set the stage at the Palm Springs Accelerator Campus to help launch sustainable businesses, diversify the economy, and create desirable jobs that will retain some the region's best and brightest high school and college graduates."

The Coachella Valley business accelerator will provide an opportunity for the region to diversify its economy and create jobs in growing fields and will contribute to the development of renewable energy technologies, including wind and solar power.

Dr. Ruiz, CVEP, the City of Palm Springs' Economic Development Department, and the Measure J Commission, collaborated to advocate for, and secure this grant.
