Dr. Ruiz: The Fight to Protect Affordable Care Continues

March 8, 2017

Calls on Congress to Address Real Costs of Health Care

Washington, D.C. - Today, after more than 27 hours of debate, Rep. Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) declared that the fight to protect access to high-quality, affordable health care continues. He released the following statement following a marathon markup in the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

"The Republican Affordable Care Act repeal bill that passed House committees will make hard working families pay more for less coverage and give corporations and millionaires tax breaks, and it violates our American value of fairness. There will be millions more uninsured patients, which will put a strain on hospitals and emergency departments' ability to care for everyone," said Dr. Ruiz. "We can keep meaningful coverage, improve access to physicians, and decrease the cost of premiums by reducing health care and pharmaceutical drug costs, and remedying our physician shortage crisis. Unfortunately, this bill does none of this. I will continue to fight to reduce costs and improve coverage for my constituents and all Americans."

Dr. Ruiz spoke during the markup about how the bill would harm seniors and working families. You can view his remarks by clicking here.
