Dr. Ruiz Fights for Passage of the Bring Jobs Home Act, Urges Speaker Boehner to Allow Vote
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) took to the House Floor to urge the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, to allow a vote on the Bring Jobs Home Act that he co-sponsored. This bill will create critical tax incentives for businesses to bring jobs back to the United States, and close tax loopholes for corporations who ship jobs overseas.
Speaking on the House Floor, Dr. Ruiz said, “Over the last decade America lost 6 million manufacturing jobs. That’s millions of jobs families can gain if Congress does their job and votes to bring jobs home. Congress must put hard working families above corporations that ship jobs overseas. This week, the Senate will vote on this legislation. The House must act. Mr. Speaker, Congress must put people before politics, and solutions above ideology. Allow a vote on the Bring Jobs Home Act and lets put people back to work.”
The bill provides a tax incentive for U.S. companies to move jobs from overseas back to America. Specifically, the initiative will allow companies to qualify for a tax credit equal to 20 percent of the cost associated with bringing jobs and business activity back to the United States.
The Bring Jobs Home Act also ends a tax deduction for companies that outsource jobs and business activity. Right now, the cost of moving the personnel and parts of a company to a new location is defined as a business expense that qualifies for a tax deduction.
The Senate is slated to vote this week on the Bring Jobs Home Act. Dr. Ruiz is a cosponsor of the legislation.
