Dr. Ruiz Leads Bipartisan Effort Seeking Review of VA Delivery of Health Care

June 12, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) with a bipartisan group of medical professionals, wrote a letter to request the Government Accountability Office (GAO) undertake a review of the policies and practices of the Veterans Administration (VA) related to the efficiency of health care delivery and the adequacy of staffing levels.

“As medical providers, we believe a metrics driven and transparent GAO investigation into the VA is needed to ensure that the necessary resources are used wisely to provide high quality, veteran-centered health care for our veterans,” said Dr. Ruiz. “We must ensure that the VA corrects the issues that have led to these deficient scheduling practices to guarantee all veterans receive the care they deserve.”

Specifically, the letter requests a review of productivity, staffing, the veteran to physician ratio within the VA, and an analysis of comparable private sector standards.

In addition to Dr. Ruiz, other signatories include, Rep. Bass (CA-37), Rep. Bera (CA-7), Rep. Heck (NV-3), Rep. Roe (TN-1) and Rep. McDermott (WA-7). Click here to view the entirety of the letter.
