February 4, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) met with United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shinseki to discuss issues veterans face across the Coachella Valley.

“Meeting directly with Secretary Shinseki was a great opportunity to advocate for issues that matter most to veterans across the Coachella Valley,” said Dr. Ruiz. “Leading up to this meeting, I solicited input from members of the community as well as my Veterans Advisory Council to ensure I bring to light the most pressing issues facing our veteran community. I will continue to work with members of both parties to improve the lives of veterans in the Coachella Valley and across the country.”

Dr. Ruiz and Secretary Shinseki discussed possible solutions for veterans who are homeless; transportation issues for veterans in the Coachella Valley; the need for an enhanced Veterans Center in Coachella Valley; increasing living expenses for veterans who are pursuing an education; and long over due ultrasound machines for the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System.
