Dr. Ruiz Statement on the Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 Attacks

September 11, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) released the following statement in remembrance of the attacks on September 11, 2001.

"Today, we remember the tragedy of the attacks of September 11, 2001. We remember the devastation and the chaos, we remember the loved ones lost, and we remember the resiliency we found together that horrible day. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. I extend my deepest sympathies to the relatives of the fallen and all those affected by the tragedies of 9/11.

“Let us also remember the first responders, police officers, fire fighters, and heroic citizens who gave their lives for their fellow countrymen and women. Their sacrifices will endure as a testament to the steadfastness and courage of the American people in the face of adversity. Amidst one of the darkest times in our history, we set aside our differences and joined together to endure the devastation and rebuild as one single nation.

“As we pause to reflect on the lives lost, let us also remember the courage and commitment we found that day, and let us show our gratitude to the serviceman and women who answered the call of duty in the aftermath.

“On this day, as we honor the loss of the fallen and the courage of the heroes, let us reaffirm our commitment to each other and recall what we are capable of when we stand together."
