Dr. Ruiz Statement on Biden Administration Expanding Health Care Access to DACA Recipients

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-25) issued the following statement on President Biden’s announcement to expand health care coverage under American Care Act (ACA) for DACA recipients: 

“I applaud the Biden Administration’s action today to expand health care access to DACA recipients under the ACA. DACA recipients are professionals, entrepreneurs, doctors, nurses, and essential workers who create jobs, contribute to our economy, serve in our military, and protect our public health every day. Their health and contributions are very important to me and our nation.  

“That is why as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) last year, I lead our advocacy to strengthen DACA and extend access to the ACA. I appreciate the administration partnering with the CHC to deliver much-needed health care access to DACA recipients who call our nation home. I look forward to working with the CHC, President Biden, and Secretary Becerra on implementing these benefits as quickly as possible.” 

Last Congress, Dr. Ruiz led the CHC in a series of meetings with President Biden and White House officials to discuss topics of critical importance to the Hispanic community and the CHC. During these meetings, the CHC requests included executive actions for comprehensive immigration reform; equitable implementation of the Biden Administration's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law; securing environmental justice protections for frontline communities; supporting Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Hispanic students; and improving access to healthcare for all.
