Dr. Ruiz Honors Coachella Boxing Legend Lee Espinoza on House Floor
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) took to the House floor to honor Coachella Valley boxing legend Lee Espinoza, the owner of the Coachella Valley Boxing Club. Espinoza is a world-renowned boxing coach who has trained numerous champions over the last 40 years. He has been inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame and the West Coast Boxing Hall of Fame.
"[Lee's] contributions to our communities have shaped our Valley's history and have left a lasting mark on the sport of boxing," said Dr. Ruiz on the House floor. "Growing up in Coachella, I know that I was personally inspired by Lee and his grit, determination, and work ethic. I looked up to Lee because I knew he was making a difference in our humble farmworker community. And it is my hope that by telling his story here today and recording it in our nation's history, athletes across the country and future generations will also be inspired and will feel that same sense of hope that he has given to our Valley."
Dr. Ruiz's floor speech is available here.
