Rep. Ruiz Statement on Fourth Anniversary of Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

January 29, 2013

Washington, DC --- Today U.S. Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. (D-Palm Desert) released the following statement in recognition of the fourth anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

“As we mark the anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, we reflect on the importance of the principle that equal work should be rewarded with equal pay. American workers should be paid fairly regardless of gender, age, race, or ethnicity, and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act made critical strides in protecting women from pay discrimination and restoring fairness to the workplace. Despite the progress we have already made as a nation, the fight for justice and equality is not over. Pay inequality and gender discrimination remains a very real problem for women and working families in the Coachella Valley and in communities across the country. We must work together to level the playing field and continue to fight for protections to ensure equal pay for equal work for all Americans.”
