Ruiz Calls on Walmart to Bring More Vaccines to Riverside County
Palm Desert, CA – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) continued his advocacy to bring more vaccines to residents in California’s 36th District. In a letter to President and CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon, Ruiz called on the company to expand the number of states in which they are offering the vaccines and to prioritize locations in the hardest hit, highest risk underserved communities in Ruiz’s district in eastern Riverside County.
“We have a moral responsibility to make sure that we do not leave people behind simply because they lack resources or live in certain zip codes,” wrote Dr. Ruiz. “I urge you to expand the number of Walmart vaccination sites and prioritize high-risk, underserved communities like those in California’s 36th district. Not doing so will lead to further disparities and prolong the pandemic.”

Today’s letter continues a week full of Ruiz’s advocacies to get more vaccines for his constituents. Earlier this week, Dr. Ruiz wrote letters to Rite Aid and Walgreens urging the retail pharmacies to prioritize hard-hit, medically underserved communities like those in California’s 36th district as they expand the number of locations offering vaccinations in the coming months.
