Ruiz Delivers Much-Needed Federal Funding to the Salton Sea
Critical funding to address declining water levels at the Sea
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) announced the arrival of $1 million in federal funding from the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) to address the crisis at the Salton Sea.
"I am thrilled to see that $1 million in federal disaster funding is on its way to our communities to address declining water levels at the Salton Sea," said Dr. Ruiz. "I understand firsthand what the crisis at the Salton Sea means to my constituents and how it has ramifications for our public health, local economy, and ecosystem. This significant federal funding that I voted to bring home will strengthen our all-hands-on-deck approach to this public health and environmental crisis."
Earlier this year, Ruiz voted for the Extending Government Funding and Delivery Emergency Assistance Act (P.L. 117-43), which invests $200 million in Reclamation's efforts to address drought conditions throughout the West. The $1 million Ruiz voted to secure will fund mitigation efforts due to declining water levels at the Sea.
