Today we celebrate the birth and legacy of the civil rights leader, César Chávez. César was an American hero who championed the cause of equality and advocated for workers’ rights. He taught us all the importance of fighting for justice in order to form a more perfect nation. Under his leadership, farm workers organized to form what is now known as United Farm Workers (UFW).

On Friday, I visited the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms. The Commanding General, Major General Lewis A. Craparotta, and his staff briefed me on the strategic importance of the base to U.S. national security objectives and the fight against terrorism. We also discussed how to best support the Marine Corps to ensure service men and women have the resources they need to protect our country.

I am pleased to announce that I am hosting my Fourth Annual Congressional Art Competition for the 36th Congressional District! This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to submit artwork for competition. Students should submit their artwork to either my Hemet or Palm Desert offices by Friday, March 25, 2016.
