Palm Desert, CA – Dr. Raul Ruiz (CA-36) released the following statement after two Palm Springs police officers were fatally shot and another was wounded while responding to reports of a domestic disturbance Saturday afternoon:

"Officers Jose Gil Vega and Lesley Zerebny are incredible examples of courage and service and I mourn their tragic loss of life. My thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, and the entire Palm Springs and law enforcement community.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (IN-02), a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, today applauded House passage of her bill to improve the quality and safety of mobility equipment used by disabled veterans.

H.R. 3471, the Veterans Mobility Safety Act, would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to set comprehensive standards for providers of automobile adaptive equipment, such as wheelchair lifts and reduced-effort steering and braking systems. The legislation passed unanimously by voice vote and now heads to the Senate.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Dr. Raul Ruiz (CA-36) urged Speaker Ryan not to adjourn without bringing a vote on legislation to address gun violence and the growing threat of the Zika virus.

“Congress should not adjourn without addressing two critical issues to keep Americans safe. We must vote on solutions that can reduce the risk of deaths from gun violence, including preventing terrorists from buying guns in the United States, and contain the spread of the Zika virus,” said Dr. Ruiz.
